Senior Contracts Specialist

The Underground Operating Company (OpCo) at Macmahon has an opportunity for a Senior Contracts Specialist to be a part of our team.

This is a key role within the Commercial function of the OpCo responsible for supporting the successful delivery of our operating projects and strategic business plan for FY 2026 and beyond.

About the role

 

  • Manage commercial and contract matters throughout the project lifecycle for a broad range of contractual instruments to include revenue generating contracts with company clients and suppliers and subcontractors.

 

  • Serve as the primary liaison to a diverse team of operations and project leaders and provide specialist support with contract interpretation, particularly related to performance obligations, helping them to identify ways to maximise profitability and ensuring contractual compliance.

 

  • Manage full lifecycle activities during contract handover, performance and close out: formal notices and correspondence; contract changes; variation and claims strategy, preparation and management for the adjustment of compensation and schedule under the head contract; dispute management; contract extension or renewal.

 

  • Lead cross-functional contract governance by collaborating closely with internal stakeholders (project management team, operational leadership, legal and finance) for ensuring financial performance and certainty of project outcomes and managing risk.

 

  • Guide project delivery, estimating and commercial teams to provide analytical support in relation to variation impact assessments and quantification, optimizing success of contractual and commercial claims.

 

  • Pro-actively monitor contract performance, identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Address or escalate issues that may impact the successful execution of the contract

 

  • Prepare and review a variety of commercial agreements (including, NDAs, confidentiality, consultancy, on site services, supplier and subcontractor agreements).

 

  • Maintain organised systems for contract information and data management and record keeping consistent with department processes, tracking key dates and milestones.

 

  • Support RFP/ RFQ responses, including drafting commercial proposals and quotations.

 

  • Actively participate in and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives of the Commercial function by optimising processes and template standards to improve efficiency and enhance the value to the project teams.

 

 

 

About you

 

  • Tertiary qualification in law, business law or construction-related discipline.
  • Marked experience in a similar role with expertise in full life-cycle contract management for major projects within mining, resources, construction or comparable industries (contract mining services preferred) and sound knowledge of various contract models.
  • Highly developed communication (written and oral), influencing and negotiation skills, with a client-centric approach and demonstrated ability to engage with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Commercially astute, with exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills and basic financial literacy (budgets, profit margins, and pricing models) to address technical and commercial challenges.
  • High-level attention to detail and professional skill in commercial drafting techniques.
  • Ability to provide practical, business-oriented commercial advice in a fast-paced environment across varied and nuanced scenarios.
  • Must be able to travel to project sites from time to time
