Shotcrete Nozzleman - Gwalia

Job Responsibilities

Health, Safety and Risk

  • Ensure safe and efficient shotcreting operations
  • Operate equipment as per Nozzleman Training Resource Manual and procedures
  • Conduct workplace inspections for hazards and complete TTTC reports, Hazard Reports and Task Reports as required
  • Ensure individual compliance with all relevant legislation, codes of practice, Macmahon and Client instructions, policies, procedures and practices


  • Application of shotcrete according to Macmahon safe work procedures and mine plan
  • Follow all tasks safely as directed by Shift Supervisor and Site Foreman
  • Assist in directing Shotcrete Offsiders where applicable
  • Ensure prompt coordination with Shift Supervisor of shotcrete delivery at the start of each shift
  • Hydroscale headings to bring down loose rock and debris prior to shotcreting
  • Guide agitator truck into position behind Shotcrete machine
  • Operate shotcrete boom using remotes
  • Ensuring shotcrete is applied in accordance with issued ground support standards and work plans
  • Ensuring shotcrete depth and quality standards are adhered to by conducting probing, application of depth indicators and other specified methods during spraying
  • Ensuring test panels are sprayed and stored according to procedures and test panel forms are completed correctly, including comments relating to operational conditions such as air pressure, application, admixture and mechanical issues
  • Test panel handling and collection/dispatch as per site requirements and the site testing plan
  • Ensure all relevant documents are submitted efficiently and accurately on time for processing
  • Able and willing to conduct other tasks when required


  • Operate machine in competent manner without causing damage to equipment
  • Ensure work is done correctly the first time to the acceptable standard so there is no rework

Team Contribution

  • Assist site HSEQ teams with training of Offsiders for Nozzleman certification
  • Support employees and contractors to comply with all relevant policies and procedures

The Gwalia Gold Mine is located three kilometres south of the town of Leonora, Western Australia, and has been a flagship asset for our client St Barbara for the past 15 years. Macmahon is proud to be able to deliver a whole of mine service including mine development, ground support, production drilling and blasting, loading and trucking, shotcreting and paste fill reticulation from May 2021. The Gwalia mine is the cornerstone of Leonora operations and has strong margins supported by good grades and a focus on costs and returns. The site has a track record of continuous improvement, with a recently upgraded mine ventilation system, and a previous significant upgrade of the accommodation village that incorporated a number of energy efficient and environmentally friendly initiatives.


The Macmahon Underground team is seeking for a Shotcrete Nozzleman to work FIFO on a choice of roster available from Perth to project site.


To be considered in this position you must have;

  • Relevant Shotcrete experience
  • Previous Experience working on underground spraying equipment (Jacon Preferred)
  • Ability to read plans
  • Previous experience in a large scale production mining environment
  • Sound planning and organisational skills
  • Physically fit for the demands of the role
  • Proven ability to operate in a safe and efficient manner
  • Current Driver's Licence
