The Gwalia Gold Mine is located three kilometres south of the town of Leonora, Western Australia, and has been a flagship asset for our client St Barbara for the past 15 years. Macmahon is proud to be able to deliver a whole of mine service including mine development, ground support, production drilling and blasting, loading and trucking, shotcreting and paste fill reticulation from May 2021. The Gwalia mine is the cornerstone of Leonora operations and has strong margins supported by good grades and a focus on costs and returns. The site has a track record of continuous improvement, with a recently upgraded mine ventilation system, and a previous significant upgrade of the accommodation village that incorporated a number of energy efficient and environmentally friendly initiatives.

 

The Underground team are seeking a Senior Mining Engineer for Gwalia which will be FIFO out of Perth. 

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all aspects of engineering work including: mine planning, design, scheduling, Drill & Blast support, and equipment selection as required in a timely manner
  • Provide technical and commercial support as required for the site (e.g. timely reporting of accurate site performance statistics)
  • Provide technical engineering support and analysis to site management and personnel
  • Identify and actively participate in business improvement initiatives
  • Achieve a high level of competency and maintenance of the production reporting system and associated site support
  • Support in progress claim audits and forecast preparation for the project
  • Perform other duties as required and directed by your manager or site management

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Operational and practical experience in underground mining;
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience; 
  • Have a high level of communication skills;
  • Results orientated team player who aspires to continuous improvement; and
  • Ability to manage, lead and promote a safe, productive and cost-effective workforce;
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills;
  • Strong ethics and values driven;
  • Strong communication and stakeholder relationship building skills.
