Our Production Superintendent drive the success of our projects and make considerable impact on Macmahon’s overall performance. You’ll work with experienced teams, make decisions that matter and lead safe, efficient and high-quality delivery across our project.  

About the Role  
Reporting to the Production Superintendent, As an Open Cut Examiner at Byerwen, you will ensure the health and safety of persons in and around the surface excavation during the mining activities in or around the surface excavation and to ensure statutory compliance. Your role will see you providing effective production and safety leadership to the project production crew ensuring that production targets are met, a safe and healthy workplace for all employees is maintained and community & environmental compliance is adhered to.

Responsibilities

• Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, complete reporting, and implement corrective actions.
• Support the development, review, and auditing of the SHMS for mining operations.
• Lead, coach, and develop team members through clear expectations, performance management, and mentoring.
• Promote safety, compliance, and operational excellence by conducting inspections, audits, and ensuring authorised personnel use equipment correctly.
• Collaborate with supervisors and stakeholders to address employee relations issues, reinforce performance standards, and foster a respectful speak-up culture.  

What You’ll Bring  

• You will have an Open Cut Examiners Certificate of Competency for Surface Coal Mines and proven experience working as an OCE in an open-cut mining environment.
• Demonstrated leadership capability and extensive experience managing large-scale surface mining operations
• Coal Mining Industry Competencies RIIRIS301, RIICOM301B, RIIOHS301A and R11RIS402A
• Experience leading Production Supervisors and mining operations within an open-cut mining environment
• Strong knowledge of mine planning, production execution and fleet management principles
• Sound knowledge of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (QLD) including relevant regulations, guidelines and Australian standards
