Production Leading Hand - Dawson South

Macmahon is a leading Australian contract mining company with projects throughout Australia and Southeast Asia. Delivering a comprehensive range of surface and underground mining, civil design and construction, performance enhancement, and mine site maintenance and rehabilitation services to the resources sector.

Due to the continuous growth and strengthening of our position Australia wide and the recent award of the contract at Dawson South, Macmahon has opportunities for energetic, self-motivated Production Leading Hands to support our Mining team on a 7:7 roster. This role ensures production targets are communicated and achieved, machinery and equipment managed effectively and that quality, and health and safety is maintained and promoted.
 

Some of your duties will include but not limited to:

 

  • Assist the Mining Supervisor/OCE to implement the daily work plan to achieve operational targets and effectively communicate any changes to crew or others impacted by the change.
  • Assist in delivery of pre-start meetings
  • Assist the Mining Supervisor/OCE to allocate resources to maximise safety, production and cost efficiency including people, equipment and materials.
  • Inspect assigned work areas to ensure meet the operational standards for site
  • Motivate crew members to achieve high standards of performance to achieve agreed targets
  • Ensure effective communication between crew members and key stakeholders
  • Drive to deliver the required production target and proactively identify and resolve controllable operating problems, which may otherwise adversely affect mine safety or efficiencies and report to the Production Supervisor
  • Assist in the optimisations of the mine plan by providing advice to reduce non-productive time due to unscheduled service, relocation, fleet selection and nonoptimal haul profiles
  • Complete necessary documentation and reports accurately and on time including timesheets.
  • Operate assigned equipment (truck and ancillary) in a safe and efficient manner


To be successful in this role you will have:

 

  • Experience in a similar role leading a mining production crew
  • Sound knowledge or mining equipment best practice and operational performance to meet production targets in a safe and efficient manner
  • Contractor mining experience within a Coal Mining environment
  • Ability to understand and effectively implement the mine plan
  • Proven leadership skills
  • G 1, 8, 9 (S1,2,3) Courses (desirable)
  • Standard 11 induction
  • Coal Board Medical
  • Drug & Alcohol Screen
  • Drivers Licence (manual)


Dawson is located at the southern end of the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland near the town of Moura; it is approximately one hour drive from Biloela and two hours from Rockhampton and Gladstone and is one of Australia’s longest established coal mines.
Macmahon see the Dawson South contract as pivotal in building and enhancing our surface mining footprint on the east coast.

As a part of the recruitment process for this role you may be required to complete a pre-employment medical, inclusive of laboratory drug and alcohol screen and complete a criminal history and qualification checks. Additionally, you will be asked to provide proof of working rights in Australia i.e. copy of valid Australian passport, birth certificate, citizenship certificate or current visa grant notification where applicable.
