Maintenance Leading Hand - Dawson South

Macmahon is a leading Australian contract mining company with projects throughout Australia and Southeast Asia. Due to the continuous growth and strengthening of our position Australia wide and the recent award of the contract at Dawson South, Macmahon has an opportunity for dynamic leader in the role of Maintenance Leading Hands to support our operations on a 7:7 roster. This role is to lead the plant maintenance crews to deliver the requirements in terms of safety, leadership, plant service delivery and cost.

 

Key accountabilities of this role include the following:

  • Step up position into Supervisor’s role when required
  • Ensure a strong adherence to safety procedures and protocols on site
  • Assist / support the Maintenance Supervisor with general duties as required
  • Hands on role requiring high level diagnostic and communication skills
  • Display a lead by example demeanor in all areas of the role (safety, conduct, work ethic, company core business values)
  • Maximise the availability and reliability of all mobile equipment
  • Embrace and support the maintenance department ‘s planning strategy regarding work order management and defect elimination
  • Ensure that operational schedules are met in accordance with strategic operational planning.
  • Conduct and participate in all weekly toolbox meetings, daily pre-shift meetings
  • Maintain regular reporting to Shift Supervisor and other reports as required
  • Carry out repairs to equipment as to the OEM Manual (Original Engineering Manufacture) or as to best engineering practices as direct by Shift Supervisor
  • Report any item that cannot be repaired via the work order system or documented on check sheets, this still requires the Supervisor to be notified
  • Embrace and support the maintenance department ‘s planning strategy regarding work order management and defect elimination
  • Ensure that operational schedules are met in accordance with strategic operational planning
  • Complete any task as directed outside of your specific trade under supervision


The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Relevant trade qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of a range of heavy earthmoving equipment and ancillary plant.
  • Detailed knowledge of mining and safety regulations
  • Proven experience within a leading hand role
  • Coal Mining experience is highly desirable
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Standard 11 induction
  • Coal Board Medical
  • Drug & Alcohol Screen
  • Drivers Licence (manual)

 

Dawson is located at the southern end of the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland near the town of Moura; it is approximately one hour drive from Biloela and two hours from Rockhampton and Gladstone and is one of Australia’s longest established coal mines.
Macmahon see the Dawson South contract as pivotal in building and enhancing our surface mining footprint on the east coast.

As a part of the recruitment process for this role you may be required to complete a pre-employment medical, inclusive of laboratory drug and alcohol screen and complete a criminal history and qualification checks. Additionally, you will be asked to provide proof of working rights in Australia i.e. copy of valid Australian passport, birth certificate, citizenship certificate or current visa grant notification where applicable.
