Engineer - Planning

Macmahon is seeking an experienced Long Term Planning Engineer to support the recommencement of operations at Mt Carlton mine. Located approximately two hours south of Townsville, Mt Carlton is a gold silver operation preparing to transition from care and maintenance back into production. This restart presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the establishment of safe, efficient and sustainable operational practices from the outset.
 
This position is Brisbane office based with travel to site as required.
 
This role is critical to the development, optimisation, and delivery of the Life of Mine (LOM) plans that underpin safe, sustainable, and profitable operations.
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will work collaboratively with geology, operations, and leadership teams to ensure robust long-term strategies aligned with business objectives.

 

About The Role:

  • Developing and maintaining the long-term mine schedule, ensuring accuracy
  • Prepare pit designs, staging, schedules, and strip sequences aligned to production and cost targets
  • Conduct mine optimisation, scenario analysis, and sensitivity studies
  • Ensuring mine plans are safe, operationally deliverable, and commercially accurate
  • Mentoring and developing Mine Production Engineers in planning skills and mine design fundamentals
  • Supporting contractor engagement to ensure alignment of mid-term plans with execution
  • Liaising with client on resource requirements
  • Ensure volumes for Processing plant is sustainable
  • Supporting site based team to ensure budget resources are delivered 

 

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 5+ years’ experience in open cut mining (preferably Hardrock)
  • You must be committed to positively contributing to our safe, inclusive and high-performance culture
  • Demonstrated experience in surface/open cut mining environments with long-term planning responsibilities
  • Strong capability in mine design, scheduling, cost forecasting and stakeholder communication
  • Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g. Deswik, Vulcan, Spry or similar)
